Edible East End’s Winter 2007 Issue is Out

Just noticed that Edible East End‘s newest issue has been published online (and I assume hit the streets). A few articles of particular interest: My East End Oenophile column, of course. A great feature article on Richard Pisacano and Roanoke Vineyards Another great feature on Paul Holm and Long Island Meadery Edible is probably my favorite local publication…actually, there’s no probably about it. Check out the winter issue.

The 12 LI Wines of Christmas: #3 Raphael 2005 Cabernet Franc

This post is a part of my 12 Long Island Wines for Christmas series that will run from now until Christmas 2007. See the entire series here. The first red wine of my 2007 12 Long Island Wines for Christmas is Raphael’s 2005 Cabernet Franc ($18). It won’t come as a surprise to many of you that there’s a cab franc on the list, of course. You know how much I dig the grape. In fact, it would probably be more surprising if this were the only one chosen. (Yes, that’s a hint) Cab franc is a grape that comes…

WBW #40: Fleur de California 2006 Petit Sirah

Well, it’s Friday and I’m finally getting around to posting my entry for Wine Blogging Wednesday #40, hosted by everyone’s favorite Wannabe Wino. Of course, is she really just a wannabe? Some would say not. But anyway, her theme Que Sirah SIrah, asked us to turn our palates towards a grape that is sometimes overlooked, Petite Sirah. My experience with PS has mostly been relegated to Bogle’s $10 version, which I’ve alway enjoyed as a value wine for with grilled foods. My pathetic local wine shops just don’t stock much of the stuff beyond that. So, I had to do…

Macari Vineyards Buys Galluccio Family Wineries

I could have titled this post "The Pain of Writing for a Quarterly." Why? Well, as you can read in Newsday, Macari Vineyards has acquired Galluccio Family Wineries on Main Road in Cutchogue. Mark Harrington does a nice job telling the story, so I won’t. But why the other possible title? Well, I knew about this about a month ago, and put it in my upcoming column for Edible East End. And, I agreed to give them the exclusive and not write about it anywhere else.

The 12 LI Wines of Christmas: #2 Jamesport Vineyards 2006 Sauvignon Blanc

This post is a part of my 12 Long Island Wines for Christmas series that will run from now until Christmas 2007. See the entire series here. The second Long Island Wine for Christmas is a wine that didn’t last long in our cellar this spring. I had several bottles of Jamesport Vineyards’ 2006 Sauvignon Blanc ($22). I loved so many local sauvignon blancs this year that it’s hard to pick a favorite, but based solely on how quickly this one vanished from the cellars, this is the one. Most local sauvignon is reared entirely in stainless steel tanks, which…

The 12 LI Wines of Christmas: #1 Wolffer Estate Vineyards 2003 Estate Selection Chardonnay

This post is a part of my 12 Long Island Wines for Christmas series that will run from now until Christmas 2007. See the entire series here. Welcome to my 2007 12 Long Island Wines for Christmas, where I share with you the 12 wines that I’m most excited about and consider the some of the best Long Island had to offer in 2007. Today’s wine is Wolffer Estate Vineyards’ 2003 Estate Selection Chardonnay. I’ve written about this wine before, but I was reminded this past weekend of just how much I enjoy it. I served it with the pasta…

Jackson’s First Xmas Tree

We picked out our Xmas tree a couple weekends ago. I was a little worried that our little terror would either break ornaments or pull the whole tree over. But, in typical Jackson fashion, he’s been so good with his first tree. Sure, he tugs on a low-hanging branch every now and again, but mostly he just looks at it. the other night, when Nena was wrapping some gifts to send to my family in Pittsburgh, our little elf found his way into the box and Nena mad him a wrapping paper hat. Love this picture.
