Tastingtable

These are a some wines that have crossed the NYCR tasting table recently but will not be reviewed as part of a standalone post. As always, these are transcribed almost directly from my notebook with little editing:

Atwater Estate Vineyards 2008 Gewurztraminer ($16): Candied ginger, peach, lychee and pear on the nose with restrained floral character. Very gingery on the palate with pear and citrus flavors. Tastes dry at 1.2% RS because of good acidity. Medium finish that is a bit hot. Rating: 83

Brookview Station NV All Aboard Red ($12): Unknown blend of hybrid and vinifera grapes. Nose is soft with red cherries ant just-picked tomato aromas. Sweet red fruit on the mostly dry palate with distinct black pepper flavors sprinkled amongst the red cherry and tomato leaf notes. Juicy with light RS but almost no structure at all. Rating: 75

Cayuga Ridge Estate NV Cayuga White ($10): Very light nose with distant citrus and melon aromas. Medium bodied palate that is a bit neutral right out of the fridge. A bit warmer honeydew and sweet citrus aromas emerge, but they are still light. Light RS, but very well balanced. Med-short finish that is citrusy. Rating: 80

Eveningside Vineyards 2007 Cabernet Franc ($22): Ripe, fruit-forward nose with gobs of red raspberry and mulberry with a sprinkling of spice and earthiness. Juicy on the palate with light, supple tannins and good acidity. Ripe red fruit dominates here again with sasafrass, cola and spice notes. The earthiness comes back on the end of a medium finish. Not super complex, but very good. Rating: 87

Jamesport Vineyards 2007 Chardonnay ($22): Nose of roasted pear, sweet oak and subtle butter aromas. Oak is less overt on the medium-full body palate. Good acidity frames ripe pear and apple flavors touched with caramel and toasted nuts. Finish shows a little heat but lingers a bit. Rating: 84

Peconic Bay Winery NV Nautique Blanc de Blanc ($24): Same base wine/blend as still Nautique Esprit de Blanc. Nose is fruity and citrusy with lime and orange peel, and subtle citrus blossom notes.Lively with fresh acidity. Clean citrus flavors with a little apple/pear and a subtle, but distinct, minty-lemongrass note. Finish is medium-length and more appley than citrusy. Not at all classic bubbly, but strong picinic material.  Rating: 84

Pellegrini Vineyards 2008 Gewurztraminer ($20): Very perfumey with classic rose petal aromas over ripe peach, honey and a little nutty spice. Peach and pineapple flavors on the palate with intesnse floral character. Dry or nearly so, with fuller body and good acid — but a blunt, perfumey finish. Rating: 80

Standing Stone Vineyards 2007 Gewurztraminer ($19): Nutty on the nose with sweet tropical fruit and ample spice notes on top of subtle floral notes. Spicy and bit pithy on the palate, with golden apple and subtle tropical fruit notes. More floral on the end of a somewhat hot finish. Rating: 82

Whitecliff Vineyard 2009 Awosting White ($13): Blend of Vignoles and Seyval Blanc. Sweet citrus on the nose with honey, over-ripe pear and light peach. Light RS but great acidity to balance. Citrusy, peachy and a little floral. Fuller bodied with medium-long finish. Not elegant still nicely done. Rating: 84
