Wine Blogging Wednesday #37: Ravines Wine Cellars 2006 Keuka Village White (Finger Lakes)

Wine Blogging Wednesday is back again–this time for its 37th edition, hosted by none other than Dr. Vino himself. The theme is "Go Native" and the good doctor has asked us to drink a wine made from indigenous grapes. As someone who writes about, and tastes, a lot of New York wines, there are a lot of non-vinifera wines that cross my palate. And, I could have dug around in my cellar for a New York-made concord wine and followed the letter of the law exactly. But frankly, most of those wines aren’t my cup of tea? Instead, I wanted…

WBW #36: Getting Naked On Both Coasts

Three years seems like a lifetime in many ways. Three years ago Nena and I were engaged, not married like we are now. Jackson wasn’t even a consideration. We were renting a house instead of paying a mortgage. And, three years ago, I also threw the idea of Wine Blogging Wednesday out into the blogosphere. The food blogs had Is My Blog Burning, so I figured the wine geeks among us might enjoy a similar virtual, international event. Three years later, we’re going strong and seemingly growing stronger with every vintage. Thank you to each and every person who has…

Wine Blogging Wednesday #36: Let’s Get Naked

Now that I have your attention, let’s get down to business. Next month, on August 8 to be exact, we’ll be celebrating the three-year anniversary of Wine Blogging Wednesday. Actually, in the early days, it was called World Wide Wine Blogging Wednesday. But, participants quickly streamlined the name and the rest is Internet history. What started out as a few hardcore wine blogging geeks has really grown into more than I could have imagined. For that, I am grateful. Thank you to every person who has ever participated. But let’s stop looking back…let’s look forward. The theme for WBW #36…

WBW #35 Roundup Posted

The roundup for WBW #35: Passionate Spain has been posted over at My Wine Education. It looks like we had just over 40 participants, many of whom reviewed multiple wines. As Michelle mentions in the roundup, I’ll be hosting August’s edition of Wine Blogging Wednesday. It’s going to be a special edition for a number of reasons beyond the fact that it’s the 3-year anniversary of the first WBW. But more on that later. For now, check out the roundup and a hearty thanks goes out to Michelle and Kevin for hosting.

WBW #35: Do Zoe 2006 Albarino (Rias Baixas)

It’s become increasingly hard for me to find wines under $10 that I enjoy…even as "summer sippers" on a hot day. With that in mind, I was thrilled when  Michelle suggested that her edition of Wine Blogging Wednesday focus on Spanish wines that cost less than $10. But where to begin? Should I look for a cheap Rioja or some other Tempranillo-based wine? Maybe a Cava? Nah. Given the heatwave we’ve been having here on Long Island, something white and refreshing seemed the way to go (not that Cava isn’t refreshing mind you). I wanted to explore Albarino a bit…

Wine Blogging Wednesday Goes German

I got a very cool email over the weekend that Wine Blogging Wednesday is going German. Thomas from WinzerBlog tells me that it’s going to start this week under the name Weinrallye with about 10 entries expected. They also have a very fun theme in mind: "The first topic will be ‘a wine from a island.’ And, the next 8 rallyes are already given away to other German wine bloggers :-)" Pretty cool huh? Don’t forget, the original Wine Blogging Wednesday is happening this week as well. The theme is Spanish wines under $10.

Wine Blogging Wednesday #35 Announced: Passionate Spain

So a few people have complained about the last few themes for Wine Blogging Wednesday. First you moaned about having to drink box wines. Then you said that wines from the Midi were too hard to find. And finally, you complained about the prices on Washington State cabernet sauvignon. Well guys, the July theme is for you. The wines for WBW #35: Passionate Spain are easy to find, you can pick a white or red wine, and Michelle, our host, wants us to spend $10 or less. Easy right? So, join us on July 11 for WBW #35.

WBW #34: Washington Cabernet Sauvignon: Ex Libris 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon

It’s Wednesday and I’m drinking wine virtually chosen by another person, so it must be Wine Blogging Wednesday, this time hosted by Catie from the Through the Walla Walla Grape Vine blog. The theme, fittingly enough, is cabernet sauvignon from Washington State, with Catie offering up extra kudos for anyone tasting a Walla Walla wine. Unfortunately, there won’t be any brownie points coming my way. Try as I might, I wasn’t able to find a varietal cabernet sauvignon from Walla Walla. So, I went with this Ex Libris 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon from Columbia Valley ($20). Ex Libris means "from the…

Don’t Forget: Tomorrow is Wine Blogging Wednesday #34

Just a quick reminder to go out and get some Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon for Wine Blogging Wednesday #34. Bonus points if you can find one from Walla Walla. The Walla Walla Wine Woman is hosting this time ’round, so it’s certainly not shock that she wants us to drink wines from her neck of the woods. Even here on Long Island, my options were limited at several local wine shops, but I didn’t resort to Columbia Crest or anything like that. Tune in tomorrow to see what cab I came up with.
