March 1: LENNDEVOURS/canvas Magazine Wine Event

I’ve been toying around with the idea of hosting a Long Island wine event for some time. But now, through my affiliation with canvas Magazine, it’s becoming a reality. On Saturday, March 1 at 5 p.m., join me, three North Fork wineries, and Whole Foods Market at canvas’ Footprint Art Gallery in Huntington, NY for a local wine tasting with light food pairings. The three participating wineries are Raphael, Lieb Family Cellars and Macari Vineyards, and they’ll be pouring a variety of wines along side some food from Whole Foods. In addition to great wine and food, there will be…

Check Out Appellation America’s Wine Explorer Society

Most of my blogging focuses the wines of New York State. They are wines that I’m more excited and passionate about and you know that I drink local whenever possible. But, there are interesting and delicious wines being made throughout the United States and Canada. There are even a few in California. And it’s time that I start to explore those a bit more as well. And, because I’ve signed on as a guide for Appellation America’s Wine Explorer Society, I have a vehicle in which to discover wines from all the off-beat and up-and-coming North American regions. The Wine…

LENNDEVOURS Q&A: Lenn Thompson, You Know Who I Am

Today I’ve decided to change up the LENNDEVOURS Q&A series a bit…this time turning the microphone around and asking myself the same questions. Is interviewing ones self a sign of mental defect? Perhaps, but it’s fun. What (and where) was the first bottle of wine you remember drinking?I’m a little embarassed to admit that it was Mad Dog 20/20. You know, that fruity sludge that frat boys drank in college purely to get drunk. Yeah, that was my first bottle of wine. I think it was the grape flavored stuff at least. But, the first bottle of wine that I…

Wine Library TV Meets the New York Cork Club

New York Wines are Taking Over The World! Overstated, sure. But the wines I am so passionate about are working their way around the Internet pretty nicely. On today’s episode of Wine Library TV everyone’s favorite Chad Pennington wannabe tastes wines from the New York Cork Club’s February shipment. When I found that that Gary, who surely has a better arm that Pennington, was going to taste the wines, I was excited. I don’t think he’s featured any NY wines on his uber-popular vlog. But would he like them? Would he think these wines like Joe Namath…or would they be…

LENNDEVOURS and Wine Blogging Wednesday in the Baltimore Sun

Hey guess what? LENNDEVOURS and Wine Blogging Wednesday both got a little print publicity over the weekend in the Baltimore Sun. The article, which ran in the paper’s "Ideas" section, was written by Troy McCullough and it’s a nice piece about everyone’s favorite virtual wine tasting. He does say this about WBW though: "A collection of blog posts, no matter how well-written, surely is a cold, cruel substitute for an actual wine event." Perhaps he’s overstating for effect, and it’s hard to argue that any virtual wine event is as fun as a similar event in the "real world"…I don’t think…

A Letter to Lisa Granik (New York Times Op-Ed Contributor)

This letter is in response to Lisa Granik’s op-ed in the New York Times’ Sunday edition. Dear Ms. Granik, After reading your op-ed over the  weekend, I have two words for you: Thank you. That’s right, I’m thanking you even though I’m sure that by now you’ve received plenty of emails and calls from those in the Long Island wine industry, telling you that you’re wrong, misguided and misinformed — and you are in much of what you say — but I still think it’s great that your words were printed in the New York Times. The best way for…

LENNDEVOURS Partners with The Greene Grape Wine Company

Please join me in welcoming The Greene Grape wine company to LENNDEVOURS as a site sponsor. Founded in April 2004, with a store in Manhattan and a store in Brooklyn, they strive to provide everyday wines made with integrity, skill and pride. I first became familiar with the company through an article in a food magazine. Their passion for hand-crafted, affordable wines impressed me and I’m more than excited to have them on board. But the new sponsorship is only a fraction of the excitement this brings. This is a true partnership between LENNDEVOURS and The Greene Grape. I know…
