I’m still not ready to offer my full commentary on "The Classic" but wanted to congratulate the following wineries on their "best" wins at the event:

Best Cabernet Franc and Best Red Wine: Pindar Vineyards 2005 Cabernet Franc
I haven’t tasted this yet, but hope to soon.

Best Vinifera Sparkling: Osprey’s Dominion Vineyards 2002 Rose de Noir
I didn’t love this when I tasted it a while back, but I have one bottle left and may have to revisit.

Best Oaked Chardonnay
: Peconic Bay Winery 2005 La Barrique Chardonnay
I think I have this in my tasting queue. Will have to make sure.

Best Merlot: Bedell Cellars 2005 Reserve Merlot
Love this wine’s potential. Right now it’s so big and plush that it is almost California in style. With a year or two in bottle, it should settle down a little and show some of the secondary flavors, and complexity, that make LI merlot shine.

Best Vinifera Red Blend: Osprey’s Dominion Vineyards 2002 Flight Meritage
I can’t find my notes on this one, but I always like their meritage and I know I liked this one as well.

Lenn… a little surprised to see Osprey and Pindar as the big winners since they are, relatively speaking for LI, mass producers.
Who were all the participants at the NYW&FC? Was Roanoke, Shinn, Jamesport, Waters Crest, or Raphael represented?
I’m always suspicious of “award winners” because you don’t always know who they went up against.
