What’s the Best New York Wine You’ve Had Recently?

Happy Friday everyone. I thought it might be fun to get a discussion going about some of the New York wines you’re digging lately.

So, any New York wines blown you away lately?

The last one that really blew me away was Dr. Konstantin Frank’s 2006 Rkatsiteli ($24) which is a variety I wasn’t familiar with. It somehow combines the best of riesling, gewurztraminer, sauvignon blanc and gruner veltliner. Fresh, aromatic…just awesome.

If you ever see it in a wine shop, pick it up and check it out.

    Red: Osprey’s Dominion 2002 Merlot.
    White: Ravines 2006 Dry Riesling.

    2005 Standing Stone Cabernet Franc
The best Cab Franc I’ve had from the Finger Lakes (although I think they did get some of their grapes from Long Island). Very friuty, not the typical green bell pepper flavors. Awesome. On the search for more.

Funny you’d mention the Rkatsitelli as I brought that bottle to a BYO wine dinner Wednesday night. The event was Indian food, so this was a bit “light” for the food - but an excellent palate cleanser and a big hit with the audience.
I think Macari’s Cabernet Franc is the most recent NY wine that gave me so much more than I was expecting.

I’ll have to say the Roanoke Blend 2. I just wasn’t expecting it to be so tasty :)

    I’ll play….
    Roanoke Vineyards 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon.
Waters Crest 2004 Reserve Cabernet Franc.

Most recent - would be the 2005 Jamesport Reserve Chardonnay. I’m going to score it Very Good+ (92). I have many more in cue. I’m looking forward to reviewing the 2004 Merlots. Ask again in a month or 2. Best so far in the last 12 months - 2005 Corey Creek “Reserve” Chardonnay - Excellent. Enjoy - Ken

My job has been so intense the last few weeks that all I can do is have a glass of Fonseca Porto LVB 2000 when I get home.
I am looking forward to picking up Shinn Estate wines that I bought as futures back in February: 2006 Chardonnay (now $17) and 2006 Rose (now $15).
Next cellar wines from NY will be Bedell Merlot and a Lenz Chardonnay, from the 90′s.

Hi Lenn. I live in the Hudson Valley, NY and we have quite a few wineries in my area, which really works for a self proclaimed wino! My favorites are Clinton Vineyards and Benmarl. I love Clinton’s Cassis($35-technically not a wine) and Benmarl has a Hudson River Rouge($13.99)and a Cabernet Fusion($16.99).

We went to a few wineries last weekend, including Palmer and Martha Clara. We bought a red from Martha Clara, I don’t remember which one, but it was surprisingly oaky. We plan on seeking out more Long Island wines, hoping to find a favorite or 3.

I agree with Jeff - that Blend 2 was pretty nice!
