For the second year in row, Chef Gerry Hayden of The North Fork Table & Inn in Southold on the North Fork of Long Island is a finalist in the James Beard Foundation Awards as "Best Chef, Northeast."
He's one of five finalists for the award, up against Jamie Bissonnette of Coppa in Boston, Tim Cushman of O Ya in Boston, Matthew and Kate Jennings of La Laiterie in Providence, and Eric Warnstedt of Hen of the Wood in Waterbury, Conn.
Almost upon opening, NFT has been where Nena and I dine on our splurge nights. We've never had anything but an outstanding meal and experience.
Good luck chef!
What a shame that Dano Hutnik (of Dano's on Seneca Lake) didn't make it to the finals...

I was just at NFT a couple days ago (even though I know you aren't supposed to go during HRW), still had an excellent meal.

The North Fork Table is one of the finest restaurants in all of New York, let alone Long Island. Gerry and Claudia have made some of the best meals I've ever had - they're also two of the nicest people in the business. Kudos to Gerry on the nomination and I truly hope he takes home the award. He deserves it.

I was there for the first time on Thursday. Yes, during HRW. I've heard good and not so good about North Fork Table & Inn and didn't want to take a chance paying full price for 3 people, so I figured restaurant week would be the best time to try it.
I was blown away. My experience there far exceeded my expectations. The food and service were perfect. Now that I know what it's all about I wouldn't hesitate to go back when it's not restaurant week. Looking forward to it in fact.
