Dave-seelThere isn’t much that Dave loves more than a good roadtrip, food and drink. Having driven cross country nine times, he’s a veteran food adventurer. He’s caught lobsters in Maine, lived in Leadville, CO, the highest-elevation town in the lower 48, eaten fresh venison in The Redwoods, and drank way too much wine and beer in the process. He once was a vegetarian, but fell prey to bacon and has a love affair with bison.

While fly fishing in the Rockies, he came to realize that the way we treat our food is a reflection of our respect for the earth and ourselves. He is a strong advocate for producing food and libations locally and supporting regional food systems.

After living in Colorado and on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay, he moved to California where he became obsessed with Napa Cabs, Anderson Valley Pinots and Truffle Tremor goat cheese. When not teaching students about the San Francisco Estuary, he was adventuring in wine country and the neighborhoods of San Francisco, discovering the brilliance of California cuisine.

After a brief stint in the wine industry, Dave moved back to his native Long Island to be closer to family. He brought a love of food adventuring, wine, and local food and was very excited to discover the food scenes of NYC and The East End.

He started his blog, The Art (and Science) of Food Adventuring, to document and share his food experiences in and around Long Island. These days he can be found frequenting the wineries and eateries of the North Fork and searching out the neighborhood gems of Brooklyn and NYC. He’s psyched to be a part of the NYCR team and write about the ever evolving food scene on Long Island and NYC.
