Eric Ripert Digs Wolffer Estate’s 2007 Rose
I haven’t tried it (it hasn’t been released yet), but according to Forbes.com, Eric Ripert, well-known chef at Le Bernadin, has a thing for Wolffer Estate’s 2007 Rose.
Apparently he’s pairing it with a tartare of black bass made with a tangy olive
tapenade, saying that the combination of flavors "made me fall to my
knees."
It’s almost rose season, folks, one of my favorite times of year. Long Island wineries have really upped the quality of their roses in recent years, leading to some of the most food-friendly wines around. But, most of them are best consumed the same year they are released. Once the acidity starts to fade, they aren’t as versatile and refreshing.
I think I’m going to start an annual Local Rose Tasting this spring, once several of the new ones are on the market. We did it a few years ago for a story I wrote, and I think it was fun for everyone.

I think he liked the Wolffer 06 as well if I remember correctly. I hear Wolffer made a lot of 07 rose because of popular demand from the last 2 vintages. BTW, its too bad Lenn your not that crazy about seafood because Le Bernardin is the best of the best in that department.

Either he enjoys employing hyperbole, or the wine is one in a million.
The only time I’ve ever fallen to my knees is when I’ve had too much wine.
I’d be interested in Lenn’s review, whenever he gets a hold of a bottle!
