Regional Wine Week: What are YOU Drinking?

Every Monday (more or less) our editors and contributors tell you what we're drinking. Sometimes the wines are local — sometimes not. Sometimes the wines are actually beer.

But this blog isn't just about us. It's about you too. We want to know what you're drinking too.

If the traffic metrics that TypePad provides are to be believed, there are a lot more of you reading this blog than commenting, so here is my challenge to all of you lurkers out there:

In honor of Regional Wine Week, tell us what local wines you're drinking or are most excited about this week. We don't care where you live, just tell us about the local wine or wines you're enjoying lately.

I think this is a new feature that we'll break out every month or so.

    On Tuesday, I made my girlfriend & I Moroccan Stuffed Snapper in the Romertopf. I paired this with a bottle of ’06 J Vineyards Pinot Noir (an absolute steal for $25 in the local Costco).
    The wine had a taste of red and dark cherries as well as strawberries and earth. I’m going to buy a few more bottles to store for another year or two to allow for the firm tannins to mellow out just a little. Overall excellent value for money.

    At this hour of the morning? Coffee. Fair trade, medium roast. Not much on the nose, but a smooth and satisfying finish. Once I wake up a little I might remember more about the whine I’ve been having a lot of lately. Something about cleaning up the yard…
    All kidding aside, Lenn, I think this is an excellent idea.

    Paul - Sounds like not only a nice wine, but an excellent meal. Cheers.
    Bill - This morning I’m also drinking coffee, though in the dark of my kitchen I added flour instead of sugar. Anyone up for porridge?

    Bill: I’m on water this morning…but I’ll be drinking local tonight, you can bet on that.

    2007 Ravines Cabernet Franc Finger Lakes last night, was just lovely. Full, rich flavors, very complete wine. Very long too. Had it with Tilapia and savoy cabbage. Doesn’t sound like a match, but it worked.

    Jim…cabbage is almost always a match with cab franc. Nicely done.

    Here are some NY Wines that I have enjoyed recently. Please do not ask me to tell you why, because I am terrible at describing, but all of these I thought were worthwhile and in no particular order:
    2008 Anthony Road semi dry Reisling
    2005 Bedell Taste Red
    2006 Roanoke Cabernet Sauvignon
    2002 Wolffer’s Estate Merlot
    2005 Macari Estate Merlot
    The biggest thumbs up to Hearts and Hands 2006 Pinot Noir since that is the one that surprised me most. Finally a pinot noir from NYS that actually tastes like a Pinot Noir!

    Just back from our annual Finger Lakes winery trip so we’ve put NY wines on the back burner a bit although that won’t last long. Lakewood’s 2006 Pinot gris went well with last night’s scallops dinner.
