Baldwin Vineyards, located in Pine Bush, NY, in the beautiful Hudson Valley region, is a small producer that makes wines from vinifera, hybrid and native grape varieties.

But, it’s the fruit wines that owners and winemakers Pat and Jack Baldwin are most proud of.

This raspberry wine is made from 100% fresh black raspberries. It’s only 8% alcohol by volume and has 10% residual sugar.

Eyes:
Deep violet with thin, slightly crimson rim

Nose:
Aromatic with intense, fresh raspberry aromas

Tongue:
Sweet but reasonably balanced with fresh acidity. Not nearly as intense as the raspberry wine from Bedell Cellars (which is made with raspberries and grape spirits). Simple but quite delicious.

Price:
$18

Lenn’s Grade:
B/B-

Nena’s Grade:
B

Food Pairing: I think it would be delicious drizzled over cheesecake or vanilla bean ice cream.

Comments: Nena and I both really liked the freshness of the raspberry flavor. I’m a wine geek, not a wine snob, so I don’t turn my nose up at fruit wines the way some people do.
