These are a few wines that have crossed the NYCR tasting table recently but will not be reviewed as part of a standalone post. As always, these are transcribed almost directly from my notebook with little editing:
Adair Vineyards 2009 Rosalais ($12): Beautiful pale ruby color. Nose of cherry Twizzlers and strawberry candy. Medium body with gobs of sweet/candy cherry and a little cherry pit. Dry but not overly so. Decent acid. Short is finish with a little earthiness. 25% Chambourcin, 25% Dechaunac, 25% Frontenac, 25% Chancellor. Rating: 82
Glorie Farm NV Jumpin' Jazz ($12): Hybrid blend. Aromas of over-ripe or bruised melon and a flower shop. More over-ripe melon flavors joined by peach. Very perfumy on the palate as well. Okay balance because of okay acidity, but does finish a bit sugary. Rating: 78
Mattebella Vineyards 2009 Rose ($15): Earthy and gravelly on the nose with wild strawberry fruit character. Fresh and shows of it's cabernet franc-ness with earthy-herbal flavors to go with more strawberries. Lithe body with good acidity. Classy, elegant and satisfying. Rating: 85
Swedish Hill Winery 2009 Valvin Muscat ($12): Fruity Pebbles, sweet lime, potpurri and subtle spiciness on a huge nose. Is a bit sweet (2.5% RS) but good acid. More Fruity Pebbles and lime Jolly Rancher with a medium-length, lightly sweet finish. Wonder what it'd be like with less RS. Rating: 83
Ventosa Vineyards 2008 Tocai Friulano ($16): Light nose of peaches and flowers. Palate is medium bodied with fresh, clean acidity. Simple just-ripe peach flavors with a little RS (?). Short finish. Not a ton of varietal character. Rating: 80
