Gibson Campbell, known in Long Island wine country as the man behind the tasting bar at Macari Vineyards, joins the NYCR team today as our new Long Island Beer Correspondent. He’ll be a familiar face to many who read this site.
After graduating from Binghamton University in 2007with a bachelor degree in English, Literature, and Rhetoric, Gibson returned home to Mattituck, NY to work in a winery’s tasting room. Since then, he has worked full-time in the Long Island Wine Industry, but had already developed a passion for craft beer and basically all things local.
His affinity for (good) beer started with a sip of Brewery Ommegang’s Three Philosophers, which at first confused his underdeveloped palate accustomed to the colors painted by Anheuser Busch. But by the end of the bottle, a beer geek emerged.
A few years later Gibson and a friend started homebrewing and have produced numerous non-award winning ales. Now, you may spot him trying to order large-format craft beer at a sports bar or sipping a fine Dubbel with the best of them.
Gibson loves the convivial nature of the beverage industry on the North Fork of Long Island. This is what has drawn him to the New York Cork Report. He stresses the importance of the individuals, places, and stories that go into the crafting of a product that is above all made for enjoyment!
If you see him say hello — he will talk to literally anyone about Long Island beer, wine, and food. In the meantime, please help me in welcoming him to our motley crew.
