“2010 Reds Tasting Report” Canceled

When we announced our first “Tasting Report” tasting of 2014 back in early April, we miscalculated something — just how many of New York’s wineries were still selling 2010 reds or had them available. Despite a lot of interest, we simply weren’t able to pull together what I consider enough of wines to make the tasting worthwhile and of value. So, we are canceling our tasting on June 7 and will move forward with planning our 2013 riesling tasting for the late summer or early fall.

Over the winter, as the editorial board and I looked at NYCR and what we wanted to do with it in 2014, expanding our Tasting Reports program was to be a big part of it. The plan was to conduct six such tastings that would cover a wide range of grapes and styles from around the state of New York. One of my top goals for this website in 2013 is the addition of vintage and tasting reports that span regions for a variety of grapes or styles of wine. The idea of a comprehensive tasting (or tastings) for — say 2010 merlots or 2012 rieslings — isn’t a new one, but I don’t know of anyone else doing it for New York wine. The logistics and mechanics of doing these tastings are a bit daunting for a website published by part-time-but-passionate lovers of local wine — not to mention the writing of the reports — but I feel strongly…
