WBW #22 Roundup Posted

So how did everyone do with their low-alcohol red wines? Looks to me like it went pretty well — better than some people expected for sure. Tim and Winecast has posted his round-up of Wine Blogging Wendesday #22. Check it out…there are some interesting wines on the list to be sure. And, keep your blog-reading eyes peeled next week for the annoucment about WBW #23, which features a great seasonal theme.

WBW #22: Standing Stone Vineyards 2003 Pinnacle (Finger Lakes)

Today is Wine Blogging Wednesday, hosted by wine podcaster extraordinaire Tim Elliott of Winecast. Tim has participated in most every WBW from its inception, so it’s great to finally have him hosting. And, he came up with a great theme. The theme: Find a red wine with 12.5% ABV or less More and more, these types of wines are the exception rather than the rule. Is it global warming? Is it winemakers catering to certain critics? Regardless, I knew I’d have no problem finding a wine for this event. Long Island wines tend to fall in the 12%-13% range in…

Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery, Right?

It looks like the Dutch have "borrowed" the original Wine Blogging Wednesday idea, which is coming up on its 22nd vintage in just a few days. Do any of my readers read Dutch? I’d love to find out if it’s being presented as an original idea. I’m assuming it’s not…I mean, WBW is a worldwide phenomenon that is coming up on its two-year anniversary (can you believe THAT?). Thanks to Tim of Winecast for sending this link over.

Fabulous Favorites Festival Roundup — Finally

Better late than never I always say. (Okay, maybe I never say that because I’m typically not a very patient man. Oh well.) I’ve finally gotten around to doing my half of the WBW/IMBB Fabulous Favorites Festival round up (see Alberto’s half). So, without further adieu… Apparently Michelle of My Wine Education should have followed the rules (haha). She didn’t pick a favorite and her pairing of Biltmore House 2004 Syrah with pepper steak just didn’t get it done. Of course, rules are meant to be broken (and are broken regularly with these events!) Catherine from Purple Liquid, which is…

Wine Blogging Wednesday #22 Announced — Lite (Alcohol) Reds

I know…you’re still waiting for Fabulous Favorites Festival (WBW/IMBB) roundup. It’s coming this week, believe me. Alberto and I are working on it…stay tuned. In the mean time, I’m happy to announce Wine Blogging Wednesday #22, hosted by Tim Elliot of Winecast. On June 14, Tim wants us to find/taste/review a red wine. Simple enough, right? But here’s the catch — it needs to be a low-alcohol red, 12.5% ABV or lower. Now, as a resident of a cool climate wine region, I’m not going to have any problems finding a wine that fits the bill. But this should be…

WBW #21 & IMBB #26 Fabulous Favorites Festival — Wolffer Estate 2003 Late Harvest Chardonnay and Grilled Poundcake with Grilled Peaches

When Alberto and I decided to team up for WBW #21 and IMBB #26, I had aspirations of doing a five- or six-course tasting menu with our favorite foods with our favorites wines. As happens way too often for my liking, a hectic real life forced me to scale back severely. Instead of multiple wines and courses, I’m offering one wine with one dish. But, this combination more than makes up for the lack of quantity with quality. Almost immediately upon announcing the event, I wanted Nena to pick the wine or wines we would pair with food. I should…

Reminder: Fabulous Favorites Festival (WBW/IMMB) is This Friday

Don’t forget, the Fabulous Favorites Festival is this Friday. This blog event, bringing Is My Blog Burning and Wine Blogging Wednesday together for the first time, is sure to be a lot of fun for everyone. Originally I had planned on doing an entire tasting menu of favorites, but we may just focus on a couple favorites instead. Hey, it’s only Monday…we have plenty of time. Join us and send your posts to fabfavfest@googlemail.com

Wine Blogging Wednesday #21 & Is My Blog Burning #26 — Fabulous Favorites Festival

The Internet’s premier food blogging event, Is My Blog Burning? has inspired an ever-growing number of culinary blog events, including the world’s most popular virtual wine tasting Wine Blogging Wednesday. So, it was only a matter of time before the two culinary juggernauts joined forces to create the ultimate culinary blogging event. It is with great pleasure and excitement that IMBB’s founder, Alberto and I announce that we are co-hosting the May editions of IMBB and WBW. The dual theme? It’s the Fabulous Favorites Festival and it’s taking place on Friday May 19 on a blog near you. What is…

Wine Blogging…Friday?

Oh boy. How sad is it that the founder of WBW missed his own event? Blame it on a much-more-damaged-than-we-thought subfloor in our bathroom (see pictures). It took us almost a whole day just to get the subfloor stablized enough to start the project. So, I’m a couple days behind on this renovation and WBW passed me by. But, we did drink the wine for the event, a bottle of Atwater Estate Vineyards 2003 Gewurtztraminer ($18). It was consumed over a quick dinner in the middle of work…so I don’t have full notes this time around. But, it’s an easy-drinking…

Reminder: Wine Blogging Wednesday #20 is Tomorrow

Don’t forget, Wine Blogging Wednesday #20 is tomorrow, so head out, get those non-chardonnay/sauvignon blanc/riesling whites and join in on the fun. Given some of our usual participants, it should be interesting to see what obscure varieties they come up with. I guess I could re-purpose my piece on Seyval Blanc and Vidal Blanc from Wine Sediments. But what fun is that? Instead, I think I’ll taste a few New York gewurtztraminers. Check back tomorrow to find out.
