Wine Blogging Wednesday #15 — Small-Production Wines

250. For November’s edition of Wine Blogging Wednesday, the fun and talented Fatemeh from Gastronomie isn’t limiting us by varietal, country of origin or any else of the sort. Her one and only rule: drink a wine of which 250 or fewer cases were made. That’s right, we’re turning our eyes to the small producers this month. She’s offereing bonus points to anyone who chooses a wine produced by a winery that makes fewer than 1000 total cases per year as well. To steal a baseball analogy…this theme is a batting practice fastball in my wheelhouse. I can choose from…

Fox Run Vineyards 2002 Reserve Pinot Noir

It’s the first Wednesday of the month and you all know what that means — it’s Wine Blogging Wednesday, brought to us this time around by Jens of the Cincinnati Wine Garage. Jens has chosen New New-World Pinot Noir as the theme for this worldwide wine blogging festival. I have to say, this is yet another great WBW theme and one that I really enjoyed preparing for. For one, I love pinot noir this time of year. I drink quite a bit of white wine over the summer (you know how I love riesling) and, for me, pinot noir is…

Don’t Forget — Today is Wine Blogging Wednesday #14

If you haven’t done so already, head out to your local wine shop and pick up a New New World Pinot Noir, taste it, write a blog post about it and then email Jens over at Cincinnati Wine Garage to let him know about it. I’m doing my post tonight…and while I’m not leaving New York State…I am leaving Long Island for my wines of choice. I’d also like to remind all you creative types out there that I’m running a WBW logo design contest. So far we only have one logo submitted…and the deadline is November 1st. So get…

Wine Blogging Wednesday #14 Announced — New New-World Pinot Noir

Ah pinot noir. Sideways sure helped but I think it’s popularity was on the rise even before the movie’s release. For October’s vintage of Wine Blogging Wednesday, Jens of Cincinnati Wine Garage has chosen the theme New New-World Pinot Noir. What is new New-World pinot noir? That would be New World Pinot Noir that doesn’t come from France or the West Coast of the United States. You know I’m game for this topic, as New York is producing some good pinot these days (and I happen to have several I may taste through for WBW)…and I expect we’ll see a…

Wine Blogging Wednesday #13 Round Up — Like Wine for Chocolate

September’s vintage of Wine Blogging Wednesday has come and gone — so head on over to Chocolate & Zucchini and read Clotilde’s round up of WBW #13 Like Water for Chocolate.  I know that this was probably one of my favorite vintages of WBW and judging by the fact that we had 56 participants (a new record!)…I’m not alone. Keep an eye out for the annoucement of Wine Blogging Wednesday #14. And thanks again, Clotilde, for the great theme idea and serving as our humble host. You’re the best. Want to host an upcoming episode of the world’s premier wine…

Wine Blogging Wednesday #13 — Four Wines for Chocolate?

September’s vintage of Wine Blogging Wednesday is here, and our host, the food blogging sensation Clotilde of Chocolate & Zucchini has chosen chocolate cake as our first WBW pairing partner, even providing us with a recipe. From the moment Clotilde first mentioned her theme idea to me…my mind started to work (harder than usual). I love quality dessert wine, so that was the obvious route, but what kind would be best? I honestly wasn’t sure because I’m the type of person to drink (and even serve) a nice dessert wine in lieu of dessert (instead of with dessert). So, after…

Wine Blogging Wednesday #13 Announced — Like Wine for Chocolate

For September’s vintage of Wine Blogging Wednesday, our host, the multi-talented, food blogging superstar Clotilde of Chocolate & Zucchini, is asking us to do something we’ve yet to do for WBW — do a food and wine pairing on September 7th. But, Clotilde isn’t asking us to pair wine with simple roast chicken or even seared scallops or goat cheese — oh no.. She’s chosen chocolate cake as our pairing partner, even providing us with a recipe. So get those pairing ideas flowing and get ready to bake or buy your cake. This promises to be a fun, and highly…

WBW #12 Roundup: 43 of You Drank Local — Real Local

I love Wine Blogging Wednesday, the virtual wine tasting event that brings people from around the globe ‘together’ for a day of wine tasting. I love the people I meet and new friends I make each and every month. I love learning about wine regions I’ll most likely never visit. And, I love bringing new wine lovers into the fold and showing them that wine need not be scary. This month, our little tasting group swelled to an all-time high of 43 entries as we filled our glasses with the most local wines possible. Rather than break the roundup into…

Wine Blogging Wednesday #12 — Drink Local — Roanoke Vineyards 2000 Merlot

So here we are, the one-year anniversary of Wine Blogging Wednesday, the international blogging juggernaut that encourages bloggers (and some non-bloggers) worldwide to drink/review/post about a wine that falls into a different category each month. This month, as we gather from all over the globe, I’ve asked each of you to look right down the street…to the vineyard/winery nearest your home. Drink Local — Real Local…is the theme, which ties in beautifully with the 2005 Eat Local Challenge this month. It was completely coincidental, but I think it will bring even more WBWers to the fold. Not long after I…

Don’t Forget: Wine Blogging Wednsday is in Just Two Days

Drink Local this Wednesday — Real Local. The response for this month’s WBW theme has been impressive…and I’ve already received a few entries because people are going to be away or thought it was last week. Won’t you join us? It’s simple…go find a bottle (or two or three) of wine from the winery nearest your home, drink it, blog about it…and send me an email letting me know when you’re done. I’ll post the round-up later this week. I think this has the potential to be one of the more interesting vintages of the premier international wine blogging event.…
